Connor absolutely loves Yo Gabba Gabba though sadly his ability to produce the "g" sound is quite limited so it sounds more like Yo Babba Babba when he screams it at the top of his lungs. He actually loves Yo Gabba Gabba so much that many nights that I'm up working late, like tonight, he will wake up in the middle of the night and pretty much demand that I let him watch an episode before he will go back to sleep. Up till now we were pretty limited on our Yo Gabba Gabba watching abilities to just the few episodes that I have on Tivo at any given time.
Thanks to the new Yo Gabba Gabba dvd release Yo Gabba Gabba - New Friends we can watch Yo Gabba Gabba as often as we like. Yo Gabba Gabba is one of those children's shows that either you will think its the best thing ever created or you just wont care for it. I've heard pretty much extremes of each opinion from all the moms I've talked to. Yo Gabba Gabba is not exactly like any other children's program on tv right now. The plot line is a bit odd, basically to sum it up there is the main character DJ Lance Rock who at the beginning of the show brings out this huge stereo and pulls out little figures and places them on the table. The figures are the Yo Gabba Gabba characters who don't really fit any category... there is a robot, a alien looking guy, and some others that I'm not sure I could even place unless I just called them "monsterish". If I'm totally loosing you here, heh, the real basis of the show is the awesome music and dancing that pretty much all of the episodes revolve around.
Connor is a munchkin dancing king so pretty much anything involving good tunes to dance to gets his attention but to be strait with you guys I've totally pushed this series on him partially by force. Not that it was difficult he took to it almost immediately, but I really enjoy the show as much as he does. With that said I can't vouch for Yo Gabba Gabba being hugely educational. Sure it does encourage kids to eat their vegetables and brush their teeth but such lessons are sort of secondary to the entertainment value. However, we really enjoy watching and it provides us with some great bonding time not to mention some cool songs to sing while we are in the car as I get the music stuck in my head more often than I'd like to admit. Either way Yo Gabba Gabba is a daily ritual for the entire family here and no one complains when I stick the DVD in, not even Chris who most likely knows the songs from almost every episode better than I do. If that doesn't tell you something I'm not sure what would as you rarely if ever catch Chris watching the other kids shows willingly.
It's also just downright fun to watch each episode wondering which random celebrity you may see doing a dancy dance... aka teaching the characters a little dance number. Seeing Jack Black in DJ Lance's orange outfit will pretty much make the dvd for so many of you out there. I know it does for us.
You can pick up your own copy of Yo Gabba Gabba - New Friendss on Amazon. In the meantime I'm going to go find some magic shampoo and get my butt to bed! heh.
