The Smurfs were an all time favorite of mine growing up there is just something really comforting in those classic Hanna Barbera cartoons. I'm not even sure what Smurfs really are.. blue genetically engineered gnomes, fairies dipped in blueberries with their wings cut off, the long lost relative of humans? Who knows, and why is there only one girl, Smurfette? You know as a kid I never wondered these things and I just took the Smurfs as face value, they are Smurfs you know Smurfs, but as an adult I can't help to ask. The real question is why does Gargamel want to eat the Smurfs, does he know something about them that we don't? heh Ok I'll stop there.
The Smurfs - True Blue Friends is a collection of five episodes on dvd for the very first time.
Does anyone remember the lesser character Smurfs? You know those Smurfs that sort of were the fillers in the village as you know its nost just Papa Smurf and Smurfette living in Smurfville. I remember a few of them including Vanity Smurf and Brainy Smurf but who remembers Pushover Smurf?? Well a whole episode on this dvd is dedicated to Pushover Smurf. Pushover Smurf is exactly how his name suggests, he just cannot say no. I mean what else do you do with a pushover than ask him to do all your smurfing work? Poor Pushover he just can't say no to the point it gets him into some serious trouble.
Overall though the Smurfs may hold more value to the adults than the kids in the household I think kids today will still love The Smurfs the same way we did (or at least anyone who grew up pre 1985). Call me nostalgic but I had to laugh this week when Connor was playing in his new outdoor playhouse which oddly a bit like a smurf house. Needless to say I drug him inside and made him watch this DVD with me again and you know he loved it!
The Smurfs - True Blue Friends is available right now on DVD and you can pick it up on Amazon! We give it two smurfs up!
