Jesus Storybook Bible

by Sally Lloyd-Jones
I had been debating on buying Connor a bible for several months now and though those leather bound miniature children's bibles are beautiful I'm just not sure he is ready for an "adult" bible even if it is in mini form. I had one growing up and bible stories can be so complex for children to understand at such an early age. When I heard Sally had a storybook bible available of course I was curious! (I just LOVE Sally's other books!)
The Jesus Storybook Bible is exactly what I was looking for, all my favorite stories from the old and the new testament, in a format that kids can enjoy and appreciate. I especially love the fact that there are old testament stories included as it seems to be rare that you find a storybook especially in children's form that does justice to the old testament.
I love Sally's rendition of "God makes a way" Ie, Exodus 14-15, the story of God parting the waters.. I was always fascinated with this story as a child but Ill be honest to say Ive never heard it told in such a great child friendly way.
My favorite part of the entire book though are the illustrations, its a rather long children's book at 350 pages and every single page has beautiful (and sometimes even amusing) depictions of all of the bible stories. Ive actually been just flipping back and forth in the book off and on for the last hour and every page has left a smile on my face. Last night instead of reading Connor and I just spent few minutes looking at the pictures and I told him just a bit about the stories from the pictures alone. For older kids that are not quite readers but know parts of the bible stories, they could really just look at the pictures and retell the stories themselves!
Along with The Jesus Storybook Bible, Sally offers Tiny Bear's Bible for the infant/toddler set.
Tiny Bear's Bible is a huge able furry board book bible which is a great introduction to the bible stories for infants. Each page has a short poem like version of some of children's favorite bible stories. Between the furry warm exterior of this book to the soft pictures inside, Tiny Bear's Bible makes the perfect naptime/bedtime read. We actually have very few board books as I really enjoy reading a bit longer stories to Connor. This board book, however, really gets Connor's attention on his own and he loves to sit on the floor with it and play with the cover or flip through the pictures. I really have to share my favorite story from the book with you!
God Keeps Moses Safe (Exodus 1-2)
"Moses was in danger. He was hiding in a stream.
A Princess came to take a bath, and heard a baby scream!
She hugged the tiny baby, and carried him back home.
And loved that tiny baby, as if he were her own.
Just like baby Moses we are always in God's care -
He will love and keep us - now and always, Tiny Bear!"
Did that not just leave a smile on your face? Possibly its the new mom in me that loves that story so much, but Connor seems to like it too.
Both The Jesus Storybook Bible & Tiny Bear's Bible are available on Amazon as well as at your local bookstore!
Now for the giveaway!
Not long ago I reviewed Sally's Old MacNoah Had an Ark and I'm going to give away my advanced reader copy (ARC) to one reader! Please note this is an ARC not the official release of the book so the binding is not finished. I'm positive you can find a way to make that work for you! I personally was going to staple it.. but I'd like the winner to decide for themselves since it will be their book!
